A Lawrence man was killed around 2 a.m. Saturday when his vehicle was struck by a semi on I-135 about two and a half miles south of Newton, according to a report by the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Jeffrey Ely, 27, was inside of a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe that was stopped in the northbound right lane of the highway.

The vehicle was struck from behind by a semi driven by Michael Harbin, 38, of Guntown, Miss.

Kansas Highway Patrol officers said they do not know if alcohol was a factor in the incident.
