Common salt products rarely cause problems when swallowed in small amounts, and because they taste bad, dogs rarely ingest large amounts, William Bean, emergency room head at MedVet Dayton, told Cox Newspapers. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and other neurological signs. In those instances, Bean says, offer water to the dog, contact a pet poison help line and seek veterinary care.
