An off-duty police officer helped nab a 21-year-old Kansas City, Kan. man after he witnessed a shooting outside a Lawrence bar at closing time that left one man slightly wounded.

The incident occurred at about 1:45 a.m. after a scuffle broke out following the closing of the Brothers Bar & Grill, 1105 Massachusetts St., according to Sgt. Damon Thomas of the Lawrence Police Department. After the people involved in the fight were separated, someone fired a shot that wounded a bystander. The man suffered minor wounds and declined treatment, Thomas said.

An off-duty police officer who witnessed the incident called 911 and then followed the suspect’s car. Police arrested the man and booked him on two counts of second degree attempted murder.
