Motorists who have endured months of detours and bumper to bumper traffic on Interstate 35 through downtown found relief this week.

The construction barrels were removed, lanes on the viaducts opened up and so did long-closed entrance ramps from Broadway. Work crews put new decks on I-35 from Southwest Boulevard to 20th Street, The Kansas City Star reported.

They also replaced the 12th Street bridge ramps at I-35. So the jockeying from the left lanes to the right lanes and the squeeze merger days are done.

Commuters will have to come up with new excuses for being late to work or home now that the traffic backups because of construction on I-35 is no more.
