Northwest Missouri’s Matt Longacre wins Division II defensive player of the year award

Northwest Missouri’s Matt Longacre was chosen Division II defensive player of the year Thursday as the College Sports Information Directors of America announced its All-America team.

Longacre, who leads the Bearcats with 11 1/2 sacks, also made the sports information directors’ All-America first team and the Assocated Press’ Little All-America team, adding to his first-team honors from the American Football Coaches Association.

Northwest senior offensive lineman Cody Carlson of Eudora, Kan., and senior cornerback Brandon Dixon also were chosen first-team All-Americans by the sports information directors, as well as Pittsburg State linebacker Nate Dreiling. Carlson and Dreiling were also AP Little All-America picks.

Gorillas senior John Brown was chosen to the second team as a return specialist.

• Missouri State junior safety Caleb Schaffitzel was chosen to the Associated Press All-America first team for the Football Championship Subdivision.
