Man charged in ‘knockout game’ attacks

Updated: 2013-12-18T13:15:01Z

— A Long Island man faces assault charges in connection with so-called “knockout” assaults on seven people.

The Suffolk County district attorney’s office says Darryl Mitchell is to be arraigned Wednesday.

Newsday says he allegedly attacked seven residents of North Amityville and North Babylon, starting in April.

He’s believed to be the first person arrested in connection with attacks in which the object is to knock out an unsuspecting victim with one punch.

Authorities say the latest two incidents occurred on Dec. 1 on the North Amityville street where Mitchell lives.

Mitchell was arrest Dec. 4 after four victims identified him from photographs. He’s pleaded not guilty to four counts of assault at his initial arraignment. He’s being held on $50,000 cash bail.
