Prosecutors on Wednesday accused a 33-year-old man of stealing a pickup truck in Olathe and leading police on a chase that ended when he crashed into another vehicle in Overland Park.

Shawn David Dodd was charged in Johnson County District Court with aggravated robbery. Bond was set at $100,000.

Olathe police said the incident began about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of East Northview Street when a homeowner saw someone attempting to steal his Ford F-150 pickup, which was warming up in his driveway.

After the two struggled, the thief drove off in the truck. A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper saw the truck driving erratically on Interstate 35 and began pursuing it, police said. At the intersection of College Boulevard and Pflumm Road in Overland Park, the truck allegedly ran a red light and struck a vehicle driven by an elderly man.

Dodd was arrested after a short chase on foot. The other driver was taken to a hospital. The extent of his injuries was not available Wednesday.
