Around an inch of snow expected Sunday in the KC area

Sorry, kids, looks like you’ll have to keep those sleds in the garage for a little while longer.

Though we should see some white stuff by Sunday morning, forecasters don’t believe it will amount to much.

At least not in Kansas City.

Flakes could start falling as early as 3 a.m. and hang around throughout the morning, said Matthew Dux, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service out of Pleasant Hill.

“This cold air will make a very light and fluffy snow,” Dux said Saturday evening.

He expects Kansas City to get about an inch, “with other parts a tad higher and others a tad lower.”

As you get closer to the Nebraska border, accumulations could hit two to three inches. From Omaha to Des Moines, three to four inches of snow could fall, Dux said.

The cold weather though, will be sticking around for a while. Temperatures are expected to rise by the end of the week.

Until then, better keep the heavy coat and gloves handy.
