On the way: Black Angels with Roky Erickson

Updated: 2013-12-03T21:06:00Z

Some well-known acid-rockers from Texas are coming to Lawrence in January.

The Black Angels will open their 2014 tour at the Granada theater on Jan, 31. They will be joined by Roky Erickson, a founding member of the 13th Floor Elevators, an Austin, Texas, band formed in the mid-1960s that was among the first wave of psychedelic-rock bands.

The Black Angels, also from Austin, have been around since 2003, when they were at the forefront of a psychedelic-rock revival. They released their first full-length, “Passover,” in 2006. Their breakthrough album was “Phosphene Dream,” which climbed to No. 52 on the Billboard charts. They will be touring on “Indigo Meadow,” their fifth full-length, released in April.

Tickets go on sale at 11 a.m. Friday. Price: $22. It’s a 14-and-older show. Go here for tickets and more information. | Timothy Finn, The Star
