A 49-year-old Kansas City man faces charges of rape, kidnapping. sodomy, sexual assault and attempted rape from two incidents that happened a month apart.

Both victims told police that Michael E. Cain threatened them with a stun gun after offering them rides. One woman escaped from an incident in early October, and the other was taken blindfolded to a home and raped, according to a court record.

“It should be noted that Cain was arrested on May 25, 2013, by Grandview police … for a similar investigation,” the court record said.

In the October attack, Cain offered a woman a ride near 24th Street and Prospect Avenue and then threatened her with the stun gun inside the car, the document said.

The woman told police that her attacker put a white towel over her face while he drove to a residence. The court record said the victim’s description of the residence was determined to match Cain’s. The woman said he covered her face again to drive her to another location, where he released her.

Early this month, another woman accepted a ride in the rain as she was walking to a store on East 31st Street. Again, Cain threatened her with a stun gun and drove to a Days Inn in Kansas City, the court record said. He attacked the woman in the car as she tried to escape, which she ultimately did with the help of an unidentified woman who apparently heard her scream and approached the car.

During the struggle, the victim handed her cellphone to the unidentified woman, who used it to call police.

Cain, arrested Friday, told Kansas City police detectives that he had met the woman online and they had agreed to get a room at the Days Inn, a court record said. They quarreled and fought, with Cain saying he had to force her out of his car and received a scratch on his neck.

Prosecutors have asked for $250,000 bond.
