Rockhurst men’s soccer team reaches NCAA Division II quarterfinals

No. 14 Rockhurst advanced to the NCAA Division II quarterfinals on its home field Friday with 2-0 victory over No. 25 Lewis (Ill.). After the two teams played to a scoreless draw through 80 minutes, Mark Magee scored twice for the Hawks, 16-3-3, in a four-minute span, clinching the Midwest Regional title. Magee has 15 goals on the season.

The Hawks will face top-ranked Lindenwood at 1 p.m. Sunday on Bourke Field for a spot in the national semifinals in Georgia. Lindenwood won the Central Regional title Friday at Rockhurst, beating No. 20 Fort Hays State 1-0.


• Top-seeded Central Missouri will play for the MIAA volleyball championship on its home floor after a 25-14, 25-23, 25-20 victory over No. 4 seed Central Oklahoma in the tournament semifinals. The Jennies will play third-seeded Nebraska-Kearney, a 25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 25-22 winner over No. 2 seed Washburn, at 7 p.m. Saturday in Warrensburg.

• Third-seeded Johnson County lost in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II semifinals Friday in Perrysburg, Ohio, falling 22-25, 19-25, 25-20, 21-25 to No. 2 seed Parkland (Ill.). The Cavaliers, 30-6, play for third place Saturday.
