Stolen Motorist Assist truck recovered, radio missing

Updated: 2013-11-22T05:52:36Z

Whoever stole a Motorist Assist truck from a Missouri Department of Transportation lot early Thursday only got away with a radio scanner, which has since been deactivated and doesn’t work.

The thief broke into the MoDOT complex at 3503 E. 18th St. about 3:45 a.m. and drove the truck through a gate, destroying the gate and extensively damaging the truck. MoDOT tracked the truck with its GPS and it was recovered near 24th Street and Lawn Avenue.

The thief had fled with the radio, which was programmed for police and MoDOT frequencies. The radio has been remotely deactivated and will not send or receive, but officials want it back and are offering a $3,000 reward.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Tips Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (8477).
