UMKC beats Tennessee-Martin 79-67 for first victory

The UMKC men’s basketball team won 79-67 at Tennessee-Martin on Wednesday for its first victory of the season. Fred Chatmon had 20 points and 12 rebounds for the Kangaroos, 1-3.

• UMKC coach Kareem Richardson announced a five-player signing class before Wednesday’s game: Darius Austin, a 6-foot-6 guard/forward from Cahokia (Ill.) High School; Noah Knight, a 6-1 guard from Olathe South; Collin Jennings, a 6-4 guard from Harrah (Okla.) High; Thaddeus Smith, a 6-9 center from Weatherford College (Texas); and Lamont Walker, a 6-5 guard/forward from Morgan Park High in Chicago.
