Missouri has blood on its hands, again

Updated: 2013-11-20T18:51:54Z

Missouri has blood on its hands, once again.

Gov. Jay Nixon and Attorney General Chris Koster have blood on their hands, too.

The state killed a human being today rather than let him rot in prison. Nixon and Koster agreed to participate in the killing by taking actions to make sure it would go forward.

And if you oppose the death penalty, as I do, it was another example of how messed up our judicial system is.

Yes, Joseph Paul Franklin was a monster. He killed people. He was found guilty of it. And he was sentenced to death - three decades ago.

He had spent the time in prison, safely locked away from society.

In the end, though, the state wanted its pound of flesh. It wanted revenge for murders committed 30-plus years ago.

And now another person is dead, this time killed at the hands of the state.
