With the 2013 season not quite over, Sporting Kansas City already has its first match of the 2014 preseason already scheduled. On Feb. 1, Kansas City will face the Portland Timbers in the Desert Friendlies at the Kino Sports Complex in Tucson, Ariz. The Houston Dynamo, San Jose Earthquakes and Seattle Sounders are also joining the mix.

As of right now, that's the only fixture on the preseason calendar. Kansas City will not be part of the 2014 FC Tucson Diamond Desert Cup.

Kansas City opened the 2013 preseason in Tucson, playing FC Tucson (PDL) and Portland. The rest of the training was done in Orlando.

Coming Tuesday

• Soony Saad will likely see action as Lebanon takes on Iran in an Asian Cup qualifier at 9:30 a.m.

• The United States will close out a very successful 2013 campaign with a friendly in Austria. The match will be on the NBC Sports Network at 1:45 p.m. No Sporting KC players were called up for the friendly.

• The last event coming on Tuesday: Kansas City's USL-Pro affiliate Orlando City will have a "major" announcement at 5 p.m. It's expected that Orlando City will become the 21st MLS franchise, joining the league with New York City FC in 2015.
