A 73-year-old Gladstone man has been indicted on charges of producing, distributing and possessing child pornography.

Barry Alan Darlington allegedly used a minor girl to produce child pornography from 2001 to 2004, according to a federal grand jury indictment.

Federal prosecutors in Kansas City alleged in court documents that Darlington distributed some of those images over the Internet.

According to prosecutors, he asked the person who received images of that girl not to give them to anyone else because he would “hate to go to jail or ruin her for life.”

Prosecutors want Darlington held in custody without bond. In their written detention request, prosecutors allege Darlington destroyed a computer hard drive after being questioned by police.

The motion also alleges that Darlington wrote in online conversations about a continuing interest in other children.

“Darlington says he loves to go to malls and look at ‘young folks.’ He says he ‘checks out the kids’ when he’s at the grocery store,” according to information prosecutors included in their motion.

A detention hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Kansas City.
