A Kansas City, Kan., man pleaded guilty this week in connection with the shooting death of another man earlier this year.

Kenneth F. Cox, 24, pleaded guilty in Wyandotte County District Court to a charge of second-degree murder in the March 7 killing of 20-year-old Tyler L. Manis.

Manis was killed at a residence in the 3100 block of South 63rd Street after a disturbance broke out during a small party, according to police.

Cox, who has been in custody since shortly after the killing, was scheduled to go to trial this week on a charge of first-degree murder, but pleaded guilty on Tuesday to the lesser charge.

His sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 20.
