Mikulski: Nancy Kassebaum “an inspiration, teacher, mentor and good friend”

It isn’t a secret that former Kansas Sen. Nancy Kassebaum (now married to former Sen. Howard Baker) is one of the most popular politicians Kansas has ever produced.

She would have little chance of winning in Kansas today, of course, a fact she has confirmed on several occasions. Kassebaum, now 81, was a pro-choice, moderate Republican.

In the 1980s and 1990s, though, she easily outshone GOP Sen. Bob Dole in their home state (a fact, by the way, that drove his people crazy.)

In POLITICO today, Seb. Barbara Mikulski writes a generous piece about Kassebaum Baker. Read it here.
