Missouri All-State Choir
Singers selected: Nine Northland students have been chosen by audition for the state choir.
From North Kansas City School District, they are Ryan Ganaban, a tenor from North Kansas City High School, and Paden Osburn, an alto from Winnetonka High School.
Singers selected from Liberty High School are Hans Heruth, Chris Morgan, Turner Staton and Miguel Roman, all bass; Ashley Stuck and Lauren Wrigley, altos; and Savon Hayes, a tenor.
The All-State Choir will perform in January at the annual conference of the Missouri Music Educators Association at the Tan-Tar-A Resort.
Liberty School District
Students honored: Tanner Prendergast of Liberty High School and Tyler Michael Richards of Liberty North High School have been named Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program.
They placed among the top five percent of all students nationwide who competed by taking the preliminary qualifying tests in 2012. Commended Students are honored for exceptional academic promise.
Every year, about 1.5 million students nationwide take the test in the fall of their junior year. Tanner and Tyler scored in the top 34,000.
Park Hill School District
School recognized: English Landing Elementary School was chosen by the City of Riverside to receive the Missouri Municipal League's Civic Leadership Award.
The school was selected based on its Beyond the Bell tutoring program. Kerry Roe, principal, and Becky Kroenke, former assistant principal, accepted the award.
Liberty North High School
Girls excel: The team of Luce Apollon, Sarah Bonnot, Ying Chow, Tiffany Eldridge, Beth Hemenway, Alli Skidmore and Alex Tegler placed third in a competition in the Avila University Science and Mathematics Challenge for Young Women.
They were tested in biology, chemistry, earth science, physics, mathematics and computer science, and placed in the math contest.
