Nebraska sophomore guard Shavon Shields, an Olathe Northwest grad, was chosen Big Ten basketball player of the week after scoring 28 points in the Huskers’ season opener.

Shields, the son of former Chiefs offensive lineman Will Shields, also had six rebounds and three assists in the 79-55 win Saturday over Florida Gulf Coast. It was the first regular-season game in Nebraska’s new Pinnacle Bank Arena.
