ECCO Holdings, owner of the Hamburger Mary’s in the Crossroads Arts District, has formed a partnership with UGA LLC, owners of the Uptown Theater and Uptown Shoppes, to increase the entertainment and restaurant offerings in Midtown.
Their plans include:
• Hamburger Mary’s will continue to operate in its bright purple building at 101 Southwest Blvd. until next summer when it will relocate to the Uptown Theater. It will take a 5,000-square-foot space currently housing The Conspiracy Room.
The new Hamburger Mary’s will have an outdoor seating area that will be more than double the size of its current outdoor seating area.
• A video bar scheduled to open in December in the former Nowhere Lounge space inside the Uptown Theater at 3700 Broadway. The space will have multiple video screens on the walls.
Plans call for theme nights — videos featuring music from Broadway shows on one night, videos of comedy skits and funny commercials on another night, and more.
• A new sports bar scheduled to open in the summer of 2014 in The Uptown Shoppes, 3600 Broadway, Suite 107. The 5,000-square-foot sports bar also will have outdoor seating.
• A microbrewery serving freshly brewed beer and Tex Mex cuisine. It also will offer live country and western music and have a dance floor. It is scheduled to open in the Uptown Shoppes in early 2016.
“We really like that area, getting closer to Westport. That is closer to the kind of customers Hamburger Mary’s draws,” said Jeff Edmondson, vice president of ECCO. “With all the shows at the Uptown Theater, that is built-in business.”
Larry Sells, managing partner of UGA, said the new tenants will expand and diversify the offerings in the Midtown area.
“We also are working on apartments, a small organic grocery store,” Sells said. “We are looking to meet the needs of the neighborhood. Broadway is hot.”
Stanford and Sons Comedy Club in Legends Outlets Kansas City in Kansas City, Kan., will do a comedy concert series through the winter Conspiracy Room space, on Fridays and Saturdays, and some other nights as the space is available. It will kick-off the series on Nov. 22. If the temporary comedy club is successful, the series could run until next summer, then perhaps relocate to a permanent spot in the Uptown Shoppes.
