Ceremony Saturday marks rebirth of Bancroft School

A ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Bancroft School Apartments, which received financing help from actor Brad Pitt, will be held Saturday in Midtown.

Tours of the 50-unit facility located at 4300 Tracy Avenue begin at noon, and a program featuring U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver and Mayor Sly James follows at 1 p.m. Pitt will appear via a video feed.

The century-old former school had been empty since 2000 and was recently converted into affordable, energy-efficient apartments through a partnership that includes Neighborhood Housing Services of Kansas City, Dalmark Development Group of Lee’s Summit and Pitt’s Make it Right Foundation.
