Updated: 2013-11-08T23:13:23Z

About 6,000 members of the International Conference on Missions are expected to attend the organization’s annual convention in Kansas City next week.

The organzation, a not-for-profit ministry of the independent Christian Churches and Churches of Christ, will hold its conference at the Kansas City Convention Center starting Thursday.

The meeting, which ends Nov. 17, is expected to contribute $3.5 million to the area economy, based on spending by the delegates and the organization, according to the Kansas City Convention & Visitors Association.

About 80 percent of the delegates will travel from outside the Kansas City area, the convention group said Friday.
