Sure, the Chiefs are big news in Kansas City as NFL’s only undefeated team.

Then there’s the Chiefs’ presence in the Chinese press.

Kathy Nelson, president of the Kansas City Sports Commission, was returning from China, where she met with counterparts in organizing road races in both countries. On her Tuesday flight from Xi’an to Beijing, she picked up a copy of China Daily, the nation’s English-language newspaper, and “was stunned to see the back cover.”

The headline across the top of the page: “Timely pick keep Chiefs perfect” with a dominant photograph of Sean Smith’s goal line interception that became a 100-yard return for a touchdown in the Chiefs’ 23-13 win over the Bills on Sunday.

That’s the splash of a 9-0 team.
