Quotes from opponents of the Jackson County medical research sales tax, which fell by historic margins Tuesday:

“Taxpayers realized enough is enough. They drew a line in the sand.” — Marcus Leach, spokesman for the Committee for Responsible Research.

“It’s a diverse group. There are a lot of people who wanted it to be more thought out, and public dollars go to support the public and not these private corporations. There are people opposed to sales taxes under any and all circumstances, so it’s somewhat of a coalition.” — Brad Bradshaw, explaining the different motives for opponents.

“It’s been a hectic nine weeks. An intense nine weeks…it’s been fun, but very pre-occupying.” — Jim Fitzpatrick, Committee to Stop a Bad Cure and former Star reporter.
