Melissa Freeman leaves Cass County for Cerner

Updated: 2013-11-05T03:06:21Z

Melissa Freeman, director of economic development for Cass County, has resigned to take a position with Cerner Corp.

In addition to her role at the county, Freeman also was executive director of the Cass County Corporation of Economic Development.

County Commissioner Jeff Cox said the county and the economic development group are expected to maintain the partnership they have had in the past, in which the individual selected for the position would fulfill the roles of both the county’s economic development director and the director of the corporation.

During her tenure, Freeman was tasked with an additional contract to investigate the feasibility of the Cass Broadband Initiative, which was ultimately shut down by commissioners.
