Two-vehicle crash clogs Monday’s commute on I-70

Updated: 2013-11-04T13:43:05Z

A two-vehicle crash early in Monday’s rush hour created huge backups for drivers headed west into downtown Kansas City on Interstate 70.

The two vehicles collided about 6:40 a.m. near U.S. 40 and Blue Ridge Boulevard on Kansas City’s east side.

The collision forced the left lane and shoulder to be closed for a while. Although drivers were squeezing past about 16 mph on two open lanes, traffic quickly backed up to Missouri 291.

All lanes reopened about 7:40 a.m., but not before creating the backups.
