The Kansas City Star

Here are some leftovers from the Chiefs’ 23-13 win at Buffalo, which lifted the team’s record to 9-0:

• In the Super Bowl era, 18 teams have started 9-0, and all 18, including the 2003 Chiefs, qualified for the playoffs. • Of those 18 clubs advanced to the Super Bowl, and seven won the Super Bowl. The 2003 Chiefs were beaten in the divisional round by the Indianapolis Colts.

• Coach Andy Reid is the third head coach in NFL history to win his first nine games with a new team. He joined Jim Caldwell (14 with the 2009 Indianapolis Colts) and Wally Lemm (nine with the 1961 Houston Oilers) as the only head coaches to accomplish the feat. • Chiefs 9-0 record represents a seven-win improvement from last year’s 2-14 record, marking the largest single-season turnaround in franchise history. The previous best was a six-game improvement between the 2009 (4-12) and 2010 (10-6) seasons.
