A Kansas City police dispatcher confirmed an accident on Interstate 435 early Sunday morning resulted in serious injuries, but could not provide additional details.

KMBC-TV reported a woman was critically injured after she was hit by a car while running on I-435 at about 1 a.m. The television report said investigators didn't know why the woman was on the highway near Raytown Road. The woman was taken to a hospital. Her name has not been released.

The driver was interviewed by police, and the crash shut down part of the highway but has since reopened.
