Updated: 2013-10-30T21:07:25Z

A Kansas City, Kan., middle school student was taken into custody Wednesday after bringing a gun to school.

Another student at Turner Middle School notified school authorities. Police were called to the school in the 1300 block of South 55th Street and took a 13-year-old girl into custody.

Turner School District officials said no ammunition was found on the student or in her belongings.

Jason Dandoy, assistant superintendent of business and public relations, said in a written statement that specific information about the student or possible consequences will not be released in order to protect the student’s privacy.

“Turner USD 202 will ensure that consequences are issued in accordance with district policy,” he said. “Safety of students is the top priority of Turner USD 202.”
