The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce said Wednesday that Roshann Parris, president and chief executive of Parris Communications, will begin her term Friday as the organization’s new chairwoman. She succeeds this year’s chairman, Polsinelli lawyer Russ Welsh.

Other top officers for the term that runs from Nov. 1 to Oct. 31, 2014, are chairman-elect Terry Dunn of JE Dunn Construction, vice chairman Ralph Reid of Sprint and treasurer Terry Bassham of KCP&L. Welsh will serve as immediate past chair.
Parris is the fourth chairwoman in the chamber’s 126-year history. The first was public relations agency executive and civic activist Betsey Solberg in 1995.
The newly elected chamber board members are Peter deSilva, UMB; Ed Desoignie , Heavy Constructors Association; Steve Doyal, Hallmark Cards; Frank Ellis, Swope Community Enterprises; Kara Hendon, FleishmanHillard; Cliff Illig, Tifec; Jon Jackson, University of Kansas Hospital; Chris Migneron, HNTB; Todd Pleimann, RubinBrown; Brad Smith, BMO Harris Bank; and Brad Sprong, KPMG.
Current board members elected to second three-year terms are Matt Condon, ARC Physical Therapy; Mark Donovan, Kansas City Chiefs; Dave Janus, First National Bank.
New or re-elected board members representing other organizations are Mike Hagedorn, Downtown Council; Don Hall Jr., Civic Council of Greater Kansas City; Jason Klumb, Greater Kansas City Federal Executive Board; Jim Sangster, Kansas City Area Development Council; Jane Chu, Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts; Mark James, Metropolitan Community College; Leo Morton, University of Missouri-Kansas City; Brent Stewart, United Way of Greater Kansas City.
Parris has appointed three additional board members to serve during her term: Dave Fowler, former head of KPMG’s Kansas City office; Bill Lucas, Crown Center Redevelopment Corp.; and Clyde McQueen, Full Employment Council.
The board also approved Irv Belzer of Bryan Cave as legal counsel and Bucky Brooks III of Copaken Brooks as the Mr. K Award winner.
Six public officials serving on the 2014 chamber board will be Mayor Peggy Dunn, Leawood; Ed Eilert, Johnson County Commission chair; Mayor-CEO Mark Holland, Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan.; Mayor Sly James, Kansas City; Mayor Ron Shaffer, Prairie Village; City Manager Troy Schulte, Kansas City.
The chamber will hold its 126th annual dinner on Nov. 26 at the Kansas City Convention Center.
