Long gone are the days of Trans World Airlines flying out of Kansas City International Airport.

Braniff, Eastern and Pan Am also have jetted into that great beyond. But left behind is KCI with its convenient, 41-year-old three-terminal design.

That soon will drop to two terminals with the Kansas City Aviation Department’s plans to move United Airlines out of there to Terminal C starting on Halloween. US Airways will follow in 2014, The Kansas City Star reports.

It’s happening while the city is considering going to a one-terminal design for KCI to cut costs, improve security and possibly attract more airlines, businesses and people to the airport.

Terminal A already is so vacant that the Marching Cobras would have enough room to turn flips and beat drums and not disturb or get in no one’s way. But it is sad to see the curtain closing on a once vibrant part of Kansas City.
