The 25-year-old mother accused of beating up her child’s kindergarten teacher has been arrested, police said Wednesday.

Police arrested Simone C. Baker on Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson County prosecutors have charged Baker with third-degree assault, a misdemeanor, in connection with the Sept. 5 attack at Truman Elementary School in the Hickman Mills School District.

Baker allegedly attacked the 49-year-old teacher because Baker’s 6-year-old son had come home with a scratch on his neck. The child said the scratch was from a teacher who had disciplined him that day.

The boy told police and school administrators the day after the attack that the teacher had not hurt him.

Baker had faced an municipal assault citation, but that was dismissed so county prosecutors could file more serious charges.

If convicted, she faces up to one year in jail and a fine of $1,000. The municipal charge that was dismissed carried half those penalties.

The new charge included a $10,000 bond.
