Topsys traces its roots to Patsys, which opened on the Country Club Plaza in 1929. A new owner changed the name to Topsys and registered the name in 1950.
Topsys popcorn comes in a variety of flavors, including caramel, cheese, cinnamon, caramel peanut and buttered. It also has seasonal products such as orange and white popcorn for Halloween and red and green popcorn for Christmas, along with caramel apples and cinnamon apples on Saturdays in October. Topsys also is a top retailer of Christmas gift tins.
The shops also are known for their freshly squeezed limeades.
The new Lees Summit location will be the 13th area store for the Kansas City-based company. It also has shops in St. Joseph and Topeka.
