Topsy’s Popcorn plans to open a shop at 880 N.W. Blue Parkway on Friday.

Topsy’s traces its roots to Patsy’s, which opened on the Country Club Plaza in 1929. A new owner changed the name to Topsy’s and registered the name in 1950.

Topsy’s popcorn comes in a variety of flavors, including caramel, cheese, cinnamon, caramel peanut and buttered. It also has seasonal products such as orange and white popcorn for Halloween and red and green popcorn for Christmas, along with caramel apples and cinnamon apples on Saturdays in October. Topsy’s also is a top retailer of Christmas gift tins.

The shops also are known for their freshly squeezed limeades.

The new Lee’s Summit location will be the 13th area store for the Kansas City-based company. It also has shops in St. Joseph and Topeka.
