• Shane Van Hooser, a junior goalkeeper at William Jewell, leads NCAA Division II in total saves with 86. Van Hooser, formerly of Park Hill, has posted two shutouts this season for the Cardinals, 5-8-0.

• Massachusetts Institute of Technology senior Roy Wedge, formerly of Lawrence High, was chosen as the cross country runner of the week in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference after finishing third in the Purple Valley Classic. Wedge was The Star’s Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2010.
