KC police ID driver who fled from officers and crashed Tuesday

Updated: 2013-10-16T19:40:01Z

Kansas City police on Wednesday identified a man who died after he fled from officers and crashed near 45th Street and Jackson Avenue Tuesday as Mark A. Jackson, 48, of Kansas City.

The incident began when officers spotted a Jeep Laredo speeding southbound near Linwood and Myrtle avenues about 5 p.m. The officers tried to stop the Jeep near 40th Street and Myrtle but the driver refused to pull over. The officers did not chase the car, police said, and they soon lost sight of it.

They continued checking the area and found the car wrecked. Jackson apparently lost control in the 4400 block of Jackson while speeding and went over the west curb, where the car struck a fire hydrant and chain-link fence and overturned in a front yard, police said.

Jackson died shortly after arriving at a hospital.
