Leawood man killed in Alaska diving incident

Updated: 2013-10-10T00:53:24Z

A 32-year-old Leawood man died Tuesday in a commercial diving incident in Alaska.

Alaska state troopers said Levi Adams was declared dead at a hospital in Ketchikan in southeastern Alaska. The Coast Guard responded to a Mayday call from a fishing vessel about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The Ketchikan Daily News reported that Adams and an unidentified man were diving in a commercial sea cucumber fishery harvest near the Mountain Point area of Ketchikan. South Tongass Fire Chief Steve Rydeen says the other man surfaced, noting the “air didn’t taste right.” Adams didn’t surface.

The Coast Guard is investigating.
