Liberty North High School
Musician honored: Matt Hudson, a junior, has been selected for the All-National Honor Concert Band of the National Association for Music Education.
Musicians were chosen based on a performance video and application. The band will perform later this month in Nashville, Tenn.
Hudson is a member of the Liberty North Screaming Eagles Marching Band, Drumline, Jazz Band and the Youth Symphony of Kansas City. He was first chair mallet percussion in the Missouri All-State Band in 2013 and is one of three students from Missouri accepted for the national band.
Park Hill School District
Scholars named: High school students have been selected for national recognition.
From Park Hill High School, Andrew Herdman, Sarah Hogan and Caitlin Warren were named National Merit Commended Students and Nathan Keller, a National Achievement Scholar.
From Park Hill South, Michaela Davis was honored as an Outstanding Participant in the National Achievement Scholar program and Skye Tackkett was named a National Merit Commended Student.
University of St. Mary
Chosen for cast: Sarah Cronkleton-Kidd of Gladstone will appear in “Winters’ Tales,” a comedy opening Thursday on the campus in Leavenworth.
The show is an adaptation of Jonathan Winters’ short stories, edited for the stage by Van Ibsen, director of the university’s theater program.
Shows are at 7:30 p.m. and run through Saturday in Xavier Theatre on the main campus at 4100 S. Fourth St. Tickets are $10. For more information, call 913-758-6152.
North Kansas City School District
Seniors recognized: Six students have qualified as National Merit Commended Students in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program.
They are Matthew Gutierrez of North Kansas City High School; Christopher Dykes of Oak Park; John Goldsberry, Aaron Lehman and Nathaniel Vawter of Staley; and Ryan Jeschke of Winnetonka.
Gutierrez is also a recipient of the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program.
