Southbound I-35 reopens after chain-reaction crash near Southwest Trafficway

Updated: 2013-10-07T12:31:27Z

Southbound Interstate 35 on the south side of the downtown Kansas City loop has reopened after a rush-hour chain-reaction crash.

Although the highway is back open, the Missouri Department of Transportation warned that congestion in the area might linger a while until the backup clears.

The vehicles crashed shortly after 6:40 a.m. in a construction area near Southwest Trafficway and forced the highway to be closed for about 45 minutes.

A person was on the highway, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation, but a Kansas City police dispatcher said nobody suffered serious injuries in the crash.

The call initially came in as five vehicles involved in the crash, but more vehicles might have been involved.

The wreck caused a huge backup in the area, making it difficult for emergency crews to reach the victims.
