Woman injured when bus hits, then drags her in downtown Kansas City

Updated: 2013-10-04T23:37:59Z

A bus struck and dragged a Shawnee woman almost one block Friday morning in downtown Kansas City, leaving her with critical injuries.

The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority MAX bus struck the pedestrian shortly before 6:55 a.m. while turning at 11th Street and Baltimore Avenue.

Kansas City police officers determined that, after striking the woman, the bus continued on with the pedestrian trapped beneath it before witnesses alerted the bus driver. Emergency personnel transported the pedestrian, 68, to a hospital where her condition was upgraded to stable.

The bus has been removed from service, and videos from both the bus and a building in the area were being reviewed, police said.
