Lee's Summit coach Eric Thomas and Bonner Springs boss Lucas Aslin were named the Kansas City Chiefs' high school coaches of the week Wednesday after their teams remained unbeaten with victories last week.

Lee's Summit improved to 5-0 in dramatic fashion Friday, earning a 44-38 win against Raymore-Peculiar when Casey Slaughter ran for a touchdown with less than a minute to play. It's the second consecutive late-game victory for the Tigers, who defeated Liberty the week before on a game-winning field goal as time expired. Lee's Summit finished 3-7 last season but has turned a corner behind quarterback Drew Lock.

Bonner Springs, 4-0, coasted to its fourth straight win, a 42-6 victory against Piper. The Braves have already surpassed last season's win total of three. They have scored 40-plus points in all four wins this season and will travel Friday to Mill Valley with first place in the Kaw Valley League on the line.
