Kansas City-based Smallcakes A Cupcakery plans to put shops in the Middle East.

In a press release, Smallcakes said it has signed an agreement with Glee Hospitality Solutions in Dubai to open the shops. Smallcakes officials declined to comment further.

Smallcakes, a specialty cupcake company, recently opened a location in Leawood with another shop scheduled to open near Liberty later this month. The franchisee for the downtown Overland Park shop also plans to open a location in St. Joseph later this month.

Smallcakes was co-founded in 2008 by Jeff Martin, now chief executive officer of the company. The shops bake and frost 18 signature flavors from scratch each morning, including caramel crunch, hot fudge sundae, lemon drop, pink chocolate, and peanut butter cup, along with seasonal choices. The shops also sell coffee and other drinks.
