Police continue to investigate drive-by shootings that injured children

Updated: 2013-10-02T05:09:31Z

Police on both sides of the state line worked throughout the day Tuesday to find suspects in drive-by shootings that left two children hospitalized.

The children — a 10-month-old Kansas City girl and an 8-year-old Overland Park boy — were shot in separate incidents Monday night.

The girl was reported in critical condition after being shot in the head about 8:40 p.m. in the 3900 block of Bellefontaine Avenue. Her 21-year-old father was wounded and was reported in stable condition.

They were targeted by the occupants of a vehicle. The girl was rushed to the hospital by private vehicle.

The Overland Park boy also was listed in stable condition. He was wounded about 11:45 p.m. when someone fired shots into a house in the 10000 block of Kessler Street. The boy’s mother and two younger children were not injured. Police said the attackers drove by, fired into the house, turned around and fired again.

Anyone with information about either case can call the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS (474-8477).
