The Kansas City Star
1. Fort Osage (5-0) at Staley (3-2)
Although Fort Osage reached the Missouri Class 5 championship game last season, it was Staley that won the Suburban White Conference regular season crown. Fast forward to this season, and the two teams once again meet with first place in the conference on the line. Fort Osage has held all five opponents under 10 points.
2. Oak Grove (5-0) at Pleasant Hill (5-0)
The top-ranked team in The Star's small-class poll, Oak Grove faces its stiffest test of the season thus far from an unlikely conference foe. A year after having won only three games, Pleasant Hill has outscored its first five opponents by an average margin of 27.4 points per game. Oak Grove, meanwhile, is gunning for a second straight undefeated regular season.
3. Rockhurst (2-3) at Liberty (3-2)
Two teams headed in opposite directions. Since opening the season with three straight losses, Rockhurst is buckling down defensively, a group led by linebacker Luke Arbanas, to produce back-to-back home victories. The Hawklets take their success on the road to Liberty, which was dominant during a 3-0 start before losing two straight.
4. Lee's Summit (5-0) at Blue Springs South (3-2)
How many different ways can Lee's Summit win a football game? The Tigers are testing the question. They remained unbeaten in dramatic fashion last Friday by defeating Raymore-Peculiar on tailback Casey Slaughter's touchdown run with less than a minute to play. Another tough opponent lies ahead in Blue Springs South, which needs more production from its offense.
5. Lee's Summit West (4-1) at Park Hill South (3-2)
It has been feast or famine for Park Hill South. After two uncompetitive losses, the Panthers have blown out their last three opponents. Lee's Summit West also has played in its fair share of blowouts. With an offense that includes wideout Monte Harrison and quarterback Thomas Ganaden, the Titans have scored at least 28 points every game.
