Updated: 2013-10-01T03:40:47Z

Awesome Ambitions, founded 17 years ago by Channel 41 news anchor Cynthia Newsome and former Kansas City Star columnist Angela Curry, is a mentoring program for young women in high school.

At an open house from 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 13, students and adults can learn more about Awesome Ambitions and perhaps join as a participant or volunteer.

The program offers tutoring, mentoring, career and college preparation, financial literacy, fitness, leadership development, service projects and more.

The open house will be at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center, 3700 Blue Parkway.
