A man posing as a water worker has stolen items from the homes of several people in Overland Park, city officials said in a news release.
Two residents reported to police that the man came to their door and said he needed to work on pipes in their back yard. In each case, he asked the homeowner for help in the back yard, then said he needed to go back to his truck to get equipment.
While the victims were still in the back yard, he stole items from their home and left.
The suspect is a white and was wearing a dark blue ball cap, a plaid shirt with a black undershirt, blue jeans and black work shoes. He was 6 feet tall, weighed about 170 pounds and had brown hair. He also wore a gold necklace.
Police recommend anyone approached by a utility or repair worker ask for identification and direct any suspicions to police or the utility company.
Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Overland Park police at 913-344-8750.
