The owners issued a statement thanking their customers but blaming the closing on the lack of full support from the community.
Even though there have been many issues taking the business through challenging times of uncertainty, we stayed the course and continued to push our way through. Knowing that if we were to close our doors, there would be a void in the jazz district at a time where we should be adding additional businesses........I challenge those of you who do care to realize your choice limitations from frequently spending your dollars at businesses on the other side of town that do absolutely nothing to rebuild our community.
The owners couldnt be reached for additional comment.
The sports-themed venue was at 1512 E. 18th St., in the former Peachtree Restaurant space. It had big-screen TVs, a mini Negro Leagues baseball museum, and entrees like Kansas City strip steak and fried chicken.
I thought they had a good concept, said Denise Gilmore, president and chief executive officer of the Jazz District Redevelopment Corp., landlord for the 6,000-square-foot space. She said it will soon be available for lease.
