Lee’s Summit West High School and Blue Valley’s Mission Trail Elementary School were named National Blue Ribbon Schools for 2013, U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced Tuesday.
The two public schools stood with 286 public and private schools honored nationwide for academic excellence.
The annual award recognizes schools in two categories — exemplary high performing and exemplary improving.
Both Lee’s Summit West and Mission Trail won for being exemplary high performing. They were nominated by the education commissioners in each state.
