Updated: 2013-09-21T20:28:39Z

Overland Park firefighters are working to control a blaze near 151st Street and Switzer Road that involves a ruptured natural gas line.

Fire crews arrived about 8 p.m. after Atmos Energy reported the fire.

Atmos crews has been digging in the area and apparently struck a 4-inch line which caught fire, said Jason Rhodes, Overland Park fire department spokesman. Flames shot high enough to damage street lights and nearby equipment.

Fire crews cleared the area and stood by while Atmos crews worked to stop the flow of gas. No one has been injured.

The intersection will remain closed while Kansas City Power & Light personnel inspect possible damager to utility poles.
