The Kansas City Star has won three awards in The Association of Food Journalists’ 2013 competition.

The Star’s 2012 special food section, “Edge City,” took first place in the Best Newspaper Food Project category. “Edge City” documented KC’s evolving culinary identity. Read food editor Jill Silva’s cover story about chefs working to redefine Midwestern cuisine here.
Silva and Star Magazine writer Cindy Hoedel also won awards in the Best Newspaper Food Feature category for newspapers with circulations between 125,000 and 220,000.
Hoedel won first place with her Star Magazine cover story about Rare Hare Barn, a third-generation rabbit farm in the Flint Hills. Silva took third for “Growing Change,” a Star Magazine cover story about a student-led indigenous food movement at Haskell Indian Nations University.
